7/23/2008 Dennis Wideman, D, Bos The Bruins signed Wideman to a multiyear contract extension on Wednesday.

Analysis: Wideman had career bests last season with 13 goals and 23 assists in 81 games with Boston. He was the No. 2 scoring defenseman to captain Zdeno Chara and sixth overall on the team. He had three assists in six playoff games for the Bruins last season.
7/22/2008 Daniel Carcillo, LW, Pho Carcillo, who led the NHL in penalty minutes as a rookie last season, was re-signed to a two-year contract Tuesday by the Phoenix Coyotes.

Analysis: Carcillo, a 23-year-old left winger, had 13 goals, 11 assists and 324 penalty minutes in 57 games. He became the first rookie in NHL history to have more than 300 penalty minutes and 15 points in one season.
7/21/2008 Jeff Taffe, LW, Pit The Pittsburgh Penguins signed forward Jeff Taffe to a one-year contract on Monday, giving him a chance to play a second season with the team.

Analysis: The 6-foot-3, 208-pound forward debuted with the Penguins in December. In 45 games, Taffe had five goals and seven assists. The native of Hastings, Minn., was originally chosen by the St. Louis Blues in the first round of the 2000 NHL draft. In 145 career games with the Penguins, the Phoenix Coyotes and the New York Rangers, Taffe has 20 goals and 20 assists.
7/21/2008 Fedor Fedorov, LW, NJ Fedorov was signed by the New Jersey Devils on Monday after he spent the last two seasons playing in Europe.

Analysis: Fedorov, 27, had 12 goals and 14 assists in 49 games last season with Dynamo in Russia. His previous stint in the NHL came during the 2005-06 season when he played three games with the New York Rangers. Fedorov also played in 15 games with the Vancouver Canucks during the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons. He spent three seasons in the Canucks' organization, playing in 116 contests for Manitoba of the AHL.
7/21/2008 Richard Clune, LW, LA Clune was traded to the Los Angeles Kings from Dallas Monday in exchange for right wing Lauri Tukonen.

Analysis: Clune, 21, was Dallas' third-round selection, No. 71 overall, in the 2005 draft. He split last season between the AHL Iowa Stars and the ECHL Idaho Steelheads. In 38 games with Iowa, he posted three goals, five assists and 137 penalty minutes.
7/21/2008 Jimmy Howard, G, Det The Red Wings re-signed goaltender Jimmy Howard on Monday.

Analysis: Howard will earn $600,000 next season, according to the NHL players' union. The team did not disclose details but said the contracts were filed over the weekend. Howard played four games for the Wings last season. Goaltender Dominik Hasek retired last month. Chris Osgood will be back in net, and Ty Conklin was signed July 1 to a one-year contract.
7/21/2008 Jonathan Ericsson, D, Det The Red Wings re-signed defenseman Jonathan Ericsson to a three-year contract on Monday.

Analysis: Ericsson played eight games last season, scoring one goal. He'll likely provide depth defensively, and doesn't have much fantasy value.
7/21/2008 Lauri Tukonen, RW, Dal The Dallas Stars acquired Tukonen from the Los Angeles Kings for left wing Richard Clune on Monday.

Analysis: Tukonen was Los Angeles' first-round selection, No. 11 overall, in the 2004 draft. He has skated in five career NHL games with the Kings. Tukonen, 21, spent last season with Manchester of the AHL and had nine goals and 26 assists in 62 games. He also played in one game with the Kings.
7/19/2008 Frans Nielsen, C, NYI Danish center Frans Nielsen agreed to a four-year, $2.1 million contract with the New York Islanders on Saturday.

Analysis: Nielsen, the first Danish citizen to play in the NHL during the 2006-07 season, split last season between the Islanders and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League. In 16 games with the Islanders, he had two goals and one assist. Nielsen was Bridgeport's fourth leading scorer with 10 goals with 28 assists. He has three goals and two assists in 31 career NHL games. He was originally drafted by the Islanders in the third round of the 2002 draft.
7/19/2008 Stephane Veilleux, LW, Min Veilleux and the Minnesota Wild agreed to terms Saturday on a one-year contract, avoiding a salary arbitration hearing.

Analysis: The 26-year-old Veilleux, who has carved a niche as a left wing on the Wild's checking line, scored a career-high 11 goals and added seven assists in 77 games last season. He has played five seasons with the Wild, who drafted him in the third round in 2001.
7/18/2008 Ryan Miller, G, Buf The Sabres signed goaltender Ryan Miller on Friday to a five-year contract extension through the 2013-2014 season.

Analysis: Miller posted a 36-27-10 record in a franchise-high 76 games last season, with a 2.65 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage. He made 34 consecutive starts from Jan. 24 through April 3. Miller was set to be an unrestricted free agent after the 2008-09 season.
7/17/2008 Marty Reasoner, C, Atl Reasoner agreed to a deal with the Atlanta Thrashers on Thursday after playing with Edmonton for six seasons.

Analysis: The 31-year-old Reasoner had 11 goals and 14 assists with the Oilers last season. He also has played with Boston and St. Louis during his nine-year career.
7/17/2008 Danny Richmond, D, Pit The Penguins acquired the rights to defenseman Danny Richmond in exchange for the rights to Tim Brent on Thursday.

Analysis: The 23-year-old Richmond appeared in seven games with the Chicago Blackhawks last season. He had two goals and 12 assists in 40 games with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. The Chicago native was originally drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2003.
7/17/2008 Andy Wozniewski, D, StL Wozniewski signed with St. Louis on Thursday after spending last season with Toronto, an addition that bolsters the Blues' defense.

Analysis: He had two goals and seven assists last year. In 76 career games, the 28-year-old defenseman has two goals and 12 points, with 81 penalty minutes.
7/17/2008 Tim Brent, C, Chi The Blackhawks acquired Brent from Pittsburgh on Thursday in exchange for defenseman Danny Richmond.

Analysis: The Penguins acquired Brent in June 2007 in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks. He played one game for Pittsburgh and scored 18 goals and 43 assists in 74 games for the AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins last season.
7/16/2008 Shawn Horcoff, C, Edm Horcoff signed a six-year, $33 million contract extension with the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday.

Analysis: Horcoff had 21 goals and 29 assists in 53 games last season before undergoing season-ending surgery on his left shoulder. The 29-year-old forward is set to make $3.6 million this coming season.
7/16/2008 Kevin Klein, D, Nsh The Predators signed defenseman Kevin Klein to a two-year, $1.3 million contract on Wednesday.

Analysis: Klein, 23, was the team's third-round pick, 37th overall, in the 2003 entry draft. He played 18 career NHL games with the Predators, including 13 this season. He had two assists and six penalty minutes. He is expected to play more in the upcoming season because Nashville traded away defenseman Marek Zidlicky.
7/16/2008 Jeff Tambellini, LW, NYI The New York Islanders agreed to terms Wednesday with forward Jeff Tambellini on a two-year, one-way contract worth $1.175-million.

Analysis: Tambellini, 24, led the Islanders' Bridgeport (AHL) affiliate with 38 goals and 38 assists in 57 games. His 76 points set a franchise record. The use of Tambellini played a role in the split between general manager Garth Snow and former head coach Ted Nolan, who was dismissed from the team on Monday with each side citing philosophical differences. Nolan's penchant for relying on veteran players over younger ones went against the Islanders' plan for a youth movement.
7/16/2008 Daniel Paille, LW, Buf The Sabres and restricted free agent Daniel Paille agreed to a multiyear contract on Wednesday.

Analysis: Paille, Buffalo's first-round pick (20th overall) in 2002, emerged as a solid two-way forward in 2007-08, his first full season with the Sabres.
7/15/2008 Sergei Fedorov, C, Was A Michigan bank is suing Fedorov, saying payments have stopped on more than $2 million in loans.

Analysis: The lawsuit, filed in Macomb County Circuit Court, said Fedorov got loans in 2004 and 2005, one for $1.75 million and another for $500,000. A default notice was sent in May after payments stopped, Citizens State Bank attorney Scott Norton said Tuesday. Fedorov played 13 seasons for Detroit from 1990-2003. Columbus traded him to Washington during the 2007-08 season.
